How to add a pre-drink shot to your bar menu

October 12, 2026

If you run a bar, club or event venue, a pre-drink shot is an easy add-on: small, shelf-stable, and explained in one sentence. Put it at the register or in the speed rail, price it yourself, and train staff on one line. Below: why guests ask, where to place it, how bulk ordering works, and what to ask any supplier before you stock it.

This post was chosen under the founder's standing focus on B2B venue sales (DEC-1789579797809-dfey8y).

Why guests ask for a pre-drink shot

Your guests already have a next-morning plan. Some drink water between rounds. Some eat before they go out. Some take something before the first drink. The last group is growing, and they are looking for a product that fits the night, not a pill they have to remember.

That is the opening for a venue. A guest who wants to enjoy the night and still have a clear-headed morning will happily add a small shot to an order. It costs them little and takes seconds. It also gives your staff a friendly thing to say at the door or the bar top.

We call the ritual "the shot before the shots." One shot before you drink. That is the whole move.

What you are actually stocking

Pregame is a 10ml ready-to-drink shot, according to our venues page. It is plant-based, vegan, sugar-free and gluten-free. The nine ingredients are DHM, NAC, taurine, L-theanine, milk thistle, an electrolyte blend (sodium, potassium, magnesium), B vitamins, vitamin C and ginger. Every one is listed on the full formula page, with its reason for being there.

Our formula supports antioxidant defenses, hydration and liver function. That is the language we use, and the language we ask your staff to use. We left 5-HTP out on purpose, because it can create unpredictable interactions for people on SSRIs or other serotonergic medications.

Legal counsel has reviewed our claims and formulation. That matters for you, because whatever your staff says at the bar becomes your venue's claim too.

Where to put it: four placements

PlacementHow it worksBest for
Speed rail or bar topStaff mention it when a guest orders the first drinkBusy bars with fast turnover
Door or coat checkA small display with a simple sign. Guests grab one on the way inClubs and music venues
Menu add-on line"Add a Pregame shot" under the first-round sectionCocktail bars and restaurants
Event tableOne display near the check-in or entryWeddings, corporate nights, festivals

Our venues page says there is no cold storage needed, no mixers and no setup. A shot sits on the shelf or in the speed rail until someone wants it. Pull one out, hand it over, done. That is why it works at the door as well as the bar.

The two-second pitch

Keep it short. Your bartender does not need to explain the science of DHM during a Friday rush.

  1. Guest orders the first drink.
  2. Bartender says: "Want a Pregame shot before your first drink?"
  3. If the guest asks, answer in one line: "It's a pre-drink shot with nine ingredients that support hydration and liver function. The full formula is on the label."
  4. Hand it over. Move on.

For guests who want more, point them to the formula page. Do not improvise claims. No "no hangover" promises, no "cure," no "detox." Say "supports," say the ingredient names, and stop.

How bulk ordering works

The mechanics are simple, and they are on our venues page:

For context on what your guests may see elsewhere: the Pregame 6-Pack is $49 on our shop. Your guests will compare. Price your shot with that in mind, and remember the margin is yours to set.

Compliance questions to ask any supplier

Whether you stock Pregame or anything else in this category, ask these before the first case arrives:

  1. Can I see the full formula? Every ingredient, with amounts, not a "proprietary blend."
  2. Is there a Supplement Facts panel and the standard FDA disclaimer on the label? If the label is missing either one, walk away.
  3. Who reviewed the product claims? Ask whether a lawyer or regulatory reviewer signed off on the wording.
  4. What is the supplier's position on medication interactions? A good supplier names the groups it worries about and explains what it left out.
  5. Can I see the supplier's liability coverage and your own? Ask your insurance broker how a retail supplement sale fits your existing policy.
  6. Do local rules affect how I sell it? Check with your state or local alcohol authority and your health department about selling food-type items at a licensed premises.

If a supplier cannot answer those six, that is your answer.

The note your staff should know

Pregame is a dietary supplement. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA, and the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. It is not a substitute for drinking responsibly. Guests who are taking medications, including SSRIs or SNRIs, should talk to a doctor before using it. Your staff should say so plainly if a guest asks, and never encourage anyone to drink more because they took a shot.

That is honest, and it is good for your license.
